Update on 2017

This year I focused mostly on social media when posting online, particularly Instagram as it's less of a hassle to post there.
But I don't want to neglect this blog entirely either, so here's an update on some of the art I put out throughout this year.

I wish everyone a fantastic New Year!

Winter landscape study

Today I treated myself to Kyle T Webster’s new concept brush set and used it to make this quick, messy winter landscape study. It’s an amazing set (as are all his brush sets)! You can find it here: https://gumroad.com/kyletwebster

Also in October, I finished this illustration.

Also in October, 'Skygger i mørket' ('Shadows in the dark') was released. It's a thrilling horror book for young adults written by Christian Engkilde (book cover illustrated by yours truly). It's the first book in a trilogy and it's available in Danish book stores or through Silhuet's webshop here: http://www.forlagetsilhuet.dk/udgivelser.

Inktober 2016

I haven't had time to update the blog in a long while now, but here's a bit of catching up. This year was the first time I participated in the Inktober challenge in October. Was super fun and by the end of the month I had discovered a new combo of tools I really enjoyed working with; tracing paper and markers.

New Illustrated Book

Last Friday, 'Jeg er Frankenstein' ('I am Frankenstein'), a brand new illustrated thriller book for tweens and teens, was published in the olde kingdom of Denmark. It's written by Bjarke Schjødt Larsen and illustrated by yours truly. It's a great read and it was super fun to work on too.
Below are a selection of some of the interior illustrations and vignettes I made along with the book cover without the text.

Head study

I made this head study last week in Procreate with iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. As always, super enjoyable tools to work with!
I also posted a video of my process on Instagram: artbynath

2016 avatar

Every year I make a new online avatar for myself. It's a nice tradition as it gives me a short break from big and ambitious projects. This year I used Procreate for most of it (I used Pixelmator for the circle and Photoshop for a bit of last-minute tweaking).

I started out with the more complex sketch below, but in the end I came to my senses and kept it simple and readable for small sizes. :)

Anyone Can Improve at Drawing

I threw together this Before and After picture for this site: http://anyonecanimproveatdrawing.tumblr.com/
“We all start somewhere. This is a blog where artists share how their artwork has improved after years of practice. This blog is here to inspire and encourage you to keep drawing every day!”

New Illustrated Book

My editor from Silhuet came by the other day with a lovely surprise; "Eliksiren" ("The Elixir") by author Kristoffer Jacob Andersen, a juicy horror youth book I recently finished illustrating. It’s turned out amazing! I'll post a link once it hits the Danish stores sometime next week.
